BRAY HILL AND BOB MAC - LIMITED EDITION
BRAY HILL AND BOB MAC - LIMITED EDITION
Bray Hill and Bob Mac is part of Rachael Clegg’s Milestones Isle of Man TT series in which every image illustrates a story about the world’s most iconic motorcycle race. Each image ‘recreates’ a specific event in the IOM TT’s history at the exact spot that event happened.
The story:
Full ‘dustbin’ fairings were aplenty at the 1957 Jubilee TT, including that of Bob McIntyre’s mighty four-cylinder Gilera. And it was here, near Bray Hill, where Bob ‘Mac’ was struck by a stone on lap four, which hit him between his goggles and helmet, cutting his left temple in the process. McIntyre said: “It was probably no bigger than a pea, but at 100mph it felt like a brick. It caught me between my goggles and my crash helmet and cut my left temple. I felt dazed and sick, it brought tears to my eyes and I felt blood running.” But this didn’t hinder him: having already bagged a Junior victory that week, Bob McIntyre went onto win the Senior and break the 100mph record with a fastest lap of 101.12mph, which he set on lap four.
