GRID GIRL: BRADDAN OAK TREE, LIMITED EDITION
Braddan Oak Tree is from Rachael Clegg’s Milestones series in which every single image illustrates an event from the history of the Isle of Man TT Races.
The story:
The enormous oak tree at Braddan became the focal point of the 2018 Superstock race after Peter Hickman over-braked going into the left-hander. As a result, the five-time TT winner went to the right of the tree and had to perform an elaborate three-point-turn on his BMW S 1000 RR, losing around 10 to 15 seconds in the process. But that didn’t phase Hickman. Instead, he put in the race of his life: “I put my head down and saw that the times were coming down. I was point-to-point everywhere,” he said. “It's the hardest I have ever ridden…” Hickman won the race by almost five seconds from Michael Dunlop, in spite of semi-circumnavigating a giant oak tree.
