STEFAN BELLOF S (STANDING)
STEFAN BELLOF S (STANDING)
Stefan Bellof S is part of Rachael Clegg’s Nürburgring series, in which every image illustrates a story about Europe’s most treacherous, twisting, challenging racing circuit. All images are conceived and designed by Rachael and shot - on location - by Ian Parry at the epic Nordschleife circuit. Each image ‘recreates’ a specific event in the Nürburgring’s history at the exact spot that event happened.
The story:
This flat-out right-hander is named in honour of one of one of the Nürburgring’s heroes: Stefan Bellof. In 1983 Bellof set the record for the fastest lap around the Nordschleife in just 6:11.13 minutes in his Porsche 956. The achievement also marked a change in the Nürburgring’s configuration: that year the track was shortened from 14.2 miles to 12.9 miles and this was the only time Le-Mans spec machines raced on this particular track layout. Bellof’s record was of course owing to his racing prowess but it also pointed to the ground effect and sheer power of the 956.
