BRANDISH 1
BRANDISH 1
Brandish 1 is from Rachael Clegg’s Milestones series in which every single image illustrates an event from the history of the Isle of Man TT Races.
The story:
Brandish Corner takes its name from Walter Brandish who, in 1923, crashed at this spot. He caught the back wheel of another rider who swung wide, forcing Brandish onto the grass border. But here Brandish lost control and ended up crashing on the road with a broken leg. Meanwhile, fellow rider and TT Special editor Geoff Davison had broken down at Keppel Gate and had started to coast back to the Start. He spotted Brandish in the road and realised he needed to warn oncoming riders. Fortunately, there was a lady leaning over the gate wearing a blouse so Davison shouted: ‘Gimme your blouse!’ She obliged and Davison was able to flag down approaching riders and warn them of the obstacle.
