Mick Grant’s Grit is from Rachael Clegg’s Milestones series in which every single image illustrates an event from the history of the Isle of Man TT Races.

The story:

It was during the 1975 Classic TT that Yorkshireman Mick ‘Gritty’ Grant (nicknamed for his no-nonsense resilience) broke Mike Hailwood’s long-standing Isle of Man TT lap record of 105.62mph, with Grant lapping at 109.82mph. This led Mike Hailwood - who was watching at the Start -  to utter an affectionate ‘you bastard’. But things soon went downhill for Grant: after smashing the record his chain broke at the Gooseneck. A nearby fan ran into the track and grabbed the chain but burned his hand. This bit of schadenfreude cheered Grant up no end.
