GLEN HELEN - LIMITED EDITION
GLEN HELEN - LIMITED EDITION
Greeba is from Rachael Clegg’s Milestones series in which every single image illustrates an event from the history of the Isle of Man TT Races.
The story:
Glen Helen was one of the many locations chosen by Stanley Schofield to record his fantastic Sound Stories TT records: teams of sound engineers would record the sonic traces of machines as they raced past. Norton, MV Agusta, Gilera, Honda, Yamaha, AJS and many other marques were all stars in Schofield’s series, which ran from 1958 to 1967. But there were other celebrities in this enterprise too: father-and-son commentary duo Graham and Murray Walker.
Graham (himself a TT winner) was a time-served editor of a weekly motorcycle magazine and his son, Murray, was an advertising agent whose voice would later become synonymous with Formula One. Murray remembers his Sound Stories days fondly. “The series was the product of very capable people working very hard behind the scenes. The sound crew would take what was literally miles of tape of sounds from a dozen or so points across the island.”
