SCHWALBENSCHWANZ
SCHWALBENSCHWANZ
Schwalzenschwanz is part of Rachael Clegg’s Nürburgring series, in which every image illustrates a story about Europe’s most treacherous, twisting, challenging racing circuit. All images are designed and modelled by Rachael and shot - on location - by Ian Parry at the epic Nordschleife circuit. Each image ‘recreates’ a specific event in the Nürburgring’s history at the exact spot that event happened.
The story:
Just like an elaborate Scalextrix track, Dr Otto Cruetz had the Nürburgring designed in such a manner that it twisted and weaved with bridges and tunnels. These bridges and tunnels were constructed so that local farms could transport cattle safely. As head of administration for Adenau, or landrat, Dr Creutz said: “I don’t want my cattle to be run over. I am here in the first place for farmers and the second place for motorists.” Thus, stretches such as that between Brünnchen and Antoniusbusche interfold with access roads to allow local farmers and residents to go about their business.
