BRADDAN
BRADDAN
The story:
With its looming churches and expanse of wooden benches, Braddan Bridge is an iconic part the TT course. In former years, thousands of people would flock to the site to attend open-air services but in recent decades, motorcycle racing has become the main speactacle of this vast seated area.
And barely half a mile from here, at Quarter Bridge, was where it all started.
The ‘Gordon Bennett Challenge Cup’ was established in 1904 by media mogul, playboy and petrolhead Gordon Bennett, from whom we take the expression, ‘Gordon Bennett’. Three years later, thanks to Motor Cycle editor and inaugural TT winner Charlie Collier, the two-wheeled Tourist Trophy - as we now know it - was born.
